The coatimundi or coati for short is a close relative to the North American raccoon and shares many of its attributes. These highly intelligent mammals are capable of opening windows, doors, simple locks, and garbage cans making it rather difficult to stop them on their quest for food. In captivity these animals bond strongly to their owners and enjoy playing and being interacted with. They are known to be incredibly mischievous and should have proper supervision when free roaming in a house. They require large enclosures akin to a bedroom that are outfitted with many places to climb, hide, and explore. If having a daytime raccoon is something you wish then perhaps you'll consider bringing home a coatimundi.
